Eligibility
We evaluate ages 12–26. Your diagnosis, development, health history and other medicines guide the decision.
Some medicines are approved for teens with obesity. The teen’s development and the family’s involvement are part of the conversation.
Adult approvals and your own health needs guide the evaluation. You can request your own appointment and choose who’s involved.
These medicines affect pathways involved in appetite and blood sugar. Zepbound acts on both GIP and GLP-1 pathways. Each option below has an FDA-approved weight-management use; your diagnosis and medical evaluation determine eligibility.
| Medication | Approved age | How it is taken |
|---|---|---|
| Wegovy injection (semaglutide) | 12+ | Weekly injection |
| Zepbound (tirzepatide) | 18+ | Weekly injection |
| Wegovy pill (semaglutide) | 18+ | Daily tablet |
| Foundayo (orforglipron) | 18+ | Daily tablet |
Age alone does not establish eligibility. Teen use of Wegovy is for obesity; the 7.2 mg HD injection is approved for adults only. Adult indications include obesity or overweight with a weight-related health condition. Other options, including Saxenda for eligible patients age 12+, may be discussed.
Care & monitoring
Before recommending medication, we review your health history, other treatments and the benefits and risks of each option.
Tell us about other medicines, allergies, pregnancy plans and past health concerns. We explain the warnings and potential side effects, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation.
We review side effects, hydration, nourishment and progress. Your clinician tailors testing and check-ins to your needs and explains when to report a concern.
We help you review insurance benefits and manufacturer savings or self-pay options. The prices below are advertised starting offers for medication—not the total cost of care.
Eligible new patients: first two monthly fills of 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg through December 31, 2026. Standard self-pay pricing then starts at $349/month.
View manufacturer terms — Wegovy injectionStarting price for the 1.5 mg dose. Higher doses cost more; this is not a guaranteed ongoing price.
View manufacturer terms — Wegovy pillStarting price for the 0.8 mg dose. Higher-dose prices and savings-program terms vary.
View manufacturer terms — FoundayoFor 2.5 mg KwikPen or vials. This is a starting dose, not a maintenance dose; higher doses cost more.
View manufacturer terms — ZepboundEligibility, dose, product format and current terms affect price. Offers may change. Insurance savings cards and self-pay programs have different rules; some savings cards exclude government-funded coverage.
Medical visits and medications have separate costs. Visit coverage and your copay, deductible or other responsibility depend on your plan; self-pay options are available. Accepting your insurance does not guarantee medication coverage.
We also care for type 2 diabetes and may consider medicines such as Ozempic, Mounjaro or Trulicity when appropriate. Approved ages and indications differ by medication. A diabetes approval is not the same as a weight-management approval.
Explore type 2 diabetes careShare your goals, medical history and current medicines. Your clinician decides whether any measurements or tests would help.
Discuss potential benefits, side effects, coverage and alternatives. A consultation does not guarantee a prescription.
Agree on nutrition, activity and monitoring. If medication is appropriate, your team explains how treatment and follow-up will work.
Evidence in context
The STEP TEENS trial studied weekly semaglutide 2.4 mg in adolescents with obesity. Both groups received lifestyle support.
201 participants · Ages 12 to under 18 · 68 weeks
Semaglutide + lifestyle support
−16.1%Average BMI change
Placebo + lifestyle support
+0.6%Average BMI change
Clinical-trial averages, not EndoMD results or an individual prediction. BMI change is different from percentage body-weight loss.
Both groups received a lifestyle intervention. Gastrointestinal events were reported in 62% with semaglutide and 42% with placebo; gallstones in 4% and 0%. Novo Nordisk funded the study. Results apply to this studied population and dose; treatment decisions also consider risks and follow-up.
