Thyroid care
Questions about a thyroid test or symptom? We explain what it may mean and help you plan the next step.
You don’t need labs or a questionnaire before you request a visit. Your clinician orders tests if they’re needed.

Understand the thyroid
Symptoms need context
The thyroid makes hormones that affect growth and energy. Tiredness and weight changes have many causes; symptoms alone do not show whether the thyroid is involved.
Underactive thyroid
Hypothyroidism means the thyroid makes too little hormone. It can affect energy and growth.
Overactive thyroid
Hyperthyroidism means the thyroid makes too much hormone. Your clinician explains what this means for your child.
Your visit
Understand your result and next steps
Your clinician explains what the findings mean and whether treatment, more tests or follow-up makes sense.
Already taking thyroid medicine? Keep taking it as prescribed. Bring the medicine name and how it’s taken to the visit.
What your clinician may review
- The concern that led to the visit, and how long it’s been going on
- Growth and development, when relevant
- Earlier thyroid tests, medicines and health history
- Whether more tests, an exam or regular check-ins would help
Getting started
How to arrange care
The patient must be physically in Virginia or Maryland during the video visit. Your clinician explains any in-person care needed and where to go.
Request an appointment today. We’ll help you find an available time.
Insurance and cost
We’ll check your plan and explain expected visit costs. Nutrition, labs and medicines may have separate benefits.
Do we need thyroid tests first?
No. Request care first. Share previous thyroid results if you have them; your clinician orders any new tests needed.
Does tiredness or a weight change mean a thyroid problem?
Not necessarily. Tiredness and weight changes have many possible causes. Your clinician uses the history and, when needed, blood tests to find out.
Can you review a result another doctor ordered?
Yes. Request a visit and tell us about the result. Our team will explain how to share it with your clinician securely.
Should I change thyroid medicine before the visit?
Do not change the dose without speaking with the prescribing clinician. Bring the medicine name, dose and how you or your child takes it to the visit.
